Q&A with AHS Intern Bianca Ozdoba
Ardsley High School seniors Bianca Ozdoba and Gianna Feldman have been working hard as co-interns for the PTSA DEI Committee. We chatted with Bianca to learn more about what inspired her to get involved.
What draws you to the area of diversity, equity and inclusion? Speaking up in past DEI meetings really ignited my passion for this work. I was bursting with excitement and I had never had that feeling before. It became very clear to me this is something I'm really invested in.
How do you think your extracurriculars will help you in the future? The clubs that I belong to — Silver Linings, Students of Color, Feminist Club, Spanish Club — those are very big parts of my school life. A lot of my interests are captured in these clubs and they shape my world view.
Who are your heroes? My mom. She's someone who has had to fight as a woman and as a Latina. She runs the diversity committees in her own work, and it's inspiring to see her succeed in that and in her professional world.
What is your advice to students who may want to get involved but don't have the same level of confidence? First, you're not alone. Any small thing you do can make a difference. It doesn't have to be speaking in front of everyone; even just helping your friends with their world view can help your community.
